new year goals

Wow, it’s a whole new year! We made it to 2021, and I don’t know about you but 2020 somehow felt both too fast and too slow for me! I took some much needed vacation for the holidays to spend some time with family, catching up on life, and re-assessing my goals for the upcoming new year.

Because a new year means new goals, am I right? Lol. Not everyone sets goals and that’s perfectly fine, but last year was the first year I took my goal setting more seriously and I think it worked well for me.

So I decided to sit down with myself, set some new goals for 2021, and really think about what I wanted to accomplish this year. And today I am sharing some of my new year goals with you!

Both as a way of keeping myself accountable, but also because I always think it’s interesting to see what goals other people set for themselves. Maybe my goals will spark some ideas for creating your own goals for the new year, if you’re into it!

Goals I met Last Year

The first thing I did when thinking about my new year goals was to look at what goals I met last year. Last year was my first year taking goal setting seriously, and I started out with two main goals.

  1. Post consistently on my blog: Achieved! Once I figured out the direction I wanted to in with my blog, I set a goal to start posting once a week. I started consistently posting in September when I re-launched my blog and have kept it up ever since.
  2. Reading goal: Achieved! Using the Goodreads reading challenge, I set a goal to read 48 books in 2020. I ended up reading 53! This was my favorite goal because I felt like I really accomplished something. Having the Goodreads reading challenge really kept me on track because I was able to add the books I completed to my challenge and see the total go up.

And unofficially, I had a goal to get more serious about taking care of myself, in general. I stepped up my skin care game and took up running a few months ago. Both of those things make me feel really good and I plan to continue with them!

Okay, time to take a look at my goals for the new year. For this goal setting exercise, I basically did a brain dump of everything I could think of that I wanted to do this year. Then I took the top ones that I really wanted to work on and formed my goals around them. A few of them are expanded from last years goals.

My personal goals for this year:
  1. Expand my reading goal: This year I want to read 60 books. I’ll be using the Goodreads challenge again to track them.
  2. Expand on my running: I really want to get better at running this year and be more consistent for it. I found coming up with a running goal for the whole year too overwhelming and didn’t want to set my self up for failure, so I decided to do monthly running goals. My running goal for January is to run 4 miles total each week.
  3. Get my email under control: I have a bad habit of accumulating email! I save things to read later but never go back, I have a billion folders, etc. etc. I really want to be more pro-active about dealing with emails quickly and not holding on to so many.
  4. Drink more water: My goal is to drink about a gallon of water a day. Right now I drink half that or less each day. Water is so important, I just have a hard time reaching for it or remembering to drink it!
  5. Work on my stress levels: I have a very hard time managing stress and I know how it affects me and my overall health. So my goal this year is to find some sustainable stress-reducing practices. I don’t know yet what they will be, so if you have any good ideas, hit me up in the comments below!
  6. Get my closets under control: I swear I clean out our closets every year, but every year they get more out of control! My goal is to get my closets more organized to reduce some of the pain points I’ve been noticing over the past year (like my clothes constantly falling out of my closet when I try to take one thing out!).
Blogging Goals

I have a lot of blogging goals so I’ll just sum up a few of the biggest here.

  1. Increase blog views to 10,000 views by the end of the year.
  2. Work on my SEO to really understand and implement it, and get my page ranking increased by 20% by the end of the year.
  3. Increase my blog subscribers by 100% by the end of the year.
  4. Become more comfortable with creating video content. I want to be creating 1 video per week by the end of the year.
  5. Increase my social media followers and audience by 50% by the end of the year.
  6. Create more printable resources for the blog, in general. Ideally, one per month.

Those are my goals! Lot’s to work on this year, but I think I can do it. I’m not the best at setting goals but it’s something I really want to work on so I will give it my all. If you have any suggestions for content you’d like to see on the blog or video content, please let me know in the comments! I am always interested in knowing what you’d like see.

Did you set goals for this year? What are some of your top goals for 2021?
